SJI International’s Future Move to Hougang Campus

The educational landscape in Singapore is set for a change as St Joseph’s Institution (SJI) International prepares to shift its campus from Thomson Road to a new location in Hougang by the year 2030. This move is significant for the institution, which has been serving its community since it opened its doors in 2007.

Currently situated at 490 Thomson Road, SJI International has announced that its future home will be located at 1033 Upper Serangoon Road. The transition reflects the school’s commitment to adapting and responding to evolving educational needs and urban developments.

In recent correspondence with parents, SJI International confirmed it is collaborating with relevant authorities to facilitate this major relocation. The school aims to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and involved throughout this process.

As of now, the planned site in Hougang is occupied by Anderson Serangoon Junior College, which relocated there in December 2023. This arrangement is temporary, as the junior college will revert back to its permanent site in Ang Mo Kio by December 2027 following necessary upgrades.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has noted that SJI International’s lease at its current location will conclude early in 2030. Since the release of Singapore’s Master Plan in 2014, the area where SJI currently resides has been designated for residential development. Details on what type of housing will replace the existing school buildings are still under consideration by URA officials.

Engagement with parents remains a priority for SJI International during this transition period. The school has announced an initial meeting scheduled for March 2026, aiming to foster discussion about the upcoming changes and gather input from families within the community.

While specifics regarding logistics and timelines are still tentative pending final approvals, SJI International assures parents that further details will be shared as they become available. This proactive communication approach highlights their dedication to transparency throughout this transitional phase.

Financially, SJI International appears well-prepared for this shift as indicated by their annual report; they have accumulated over $2.34 million within their building and development fund dedicated towards enhancements of both their current facilities and future campus initiatives.

This move not only represents a physical relocation but also embodies SJI International’s strategic vision for growth and improvement within Singapore’s dynamic educational environment. As such changes unfold, stakeholders can stay informed through ongoing updates provided directly by the institution.
